Why Champions Matter

Each of the 100 Commonwealth cities has three Champions — one Academic, one Civic, and one Corporate. These three figures activate Give 100 within their city, translating a Commonwealth-wide observance into visible intellectual, social, and philanthropic action.

Champions do not act alone. They are the standard-bearers through whom the five acts of P.E.A.C.E. take shape, connecting their city to a coordinated international endeavour in honour of Her late Majesty’s centenary.

P.E.A.C.E. — The Charge to the Champion and Beacon

Champions and Beacons of Give 100 are called to embody P.E.A.C.E. through five defining functions across the 100 days.

P
Propagate

Propagate Give 100 by promoting it as a Commonwealth-wide observance that encourages people to give to any good cause in honour of Queen Elizabeth II’s centenary.

E
Enkindle

Enkindle the observance by lighting the Commonweal Candle on Day 0 (13 June) to inaugurate Give 100 in honour of the Queen’s centenary, and again on Day 100 as a collective century flame for peace.

A
Advocate

Advocate for preemptology — the focused discipline of preventive healthcare — and for the elimination of cervical cancer, in at least one public address or written communication during the 100 days.

C
Convene

Convene a Century — a gathering of 100 persons — at least once during the 100 days in support of the Institute of Preemptology, ideally on the International Day of Peace alongside the Toronto Founding.

E
Enlist

Nominate LAMPs with capacity and civic breadth in view, including at least one woman and one youth under forty. The standard is focused generosity with the power to inspire others to do likewise.

Through these five acts — Propagate, Enkindle, Advocate, Convene, and Enlist — you give form to P.E.A.C.E. across the Commonwealth — and through it, to the world.

The Three Champions

Each Champion is encouraged to perform all five P.E.A.C.E. functions. However, each is entrusted with a particular charge — the acts for which that office is principally responsible.

Champion
Academic Champion

The Academic Champion provides intellectual leadership for Give 100. Through ceremonial participation and public advocacy, the Academic Champion elevates preemptology — the focused discipline of preventive healthcare — as a cause worthy of Commonwealth-wide and global attention.

Principal Charge
  • Advocate — deliver at least one public address or written communication for preemptology

The Academic Champion is equally welcome to fulfil all other P.E.A.C.E. functions and is encouraged to do so.

Champion
Civic Champion

The Civic Champion activates communities, lights the Commonweal Candle, and enlists the mayor and the city’s representatives for the Toronto Founding. This Champion carries the principal public and ceremonial charge within the city.

Principal Charge
  • Enkindle — light the Commonweal Candle on Day 0 and Day 100

The Civic Champion is equally welcome to fulfil all other P.E.A.C.E. functions and is encouraged to do so.

Champion
Corporate Champion

The Corporate Champion anchors the organisational and convening power of Give 100 within each city, carrying the principal responsibility for assembling the official Century — the centrepiece gathering that unites 100 leaders in the shared cause of advancing philanthropy.

Principal Charge
  • Convene — organise and host the official Century of the city

The Corporate Champion is equally welcome to fulfil all other P.E.A.C.E. functions and is encouraged to do so.

The Beacons

The Beacons share the same P.E.A.C.E. functions as the Champions. Each of the 100 cities may appoint several Beacons across the three categories.

Some Beacons extend this witness further — into the moral, spiritual, and symbolic life of the city. Among them are the Faith Beacons, who give sacred and intercessory expression to the observance across traditions.

Corporate Beacon

Supports the Corporate Champion in convening and philanthropic mobilisation within the city.

Civic Beacon

Supports the Civic Champion in public participation, ceremony, and local community mobilisation.

Academic Beacon

Supports the Academic Champion in intellectual advocacy and the public argument for preemptology.

The Century

At the peak of Give 100 stands the Century — a gathering of exactly 100 leaders, convened by the Corporate Champion, committed to advancing institutional building through philanthropy. Held on the International Day of Peace, the Century opens with the lighting of the Commonweal Candle by each participant and concludes with the lighting of the Century Flame.

The Century may or may not be a fundraising event.

All funds raised contribute to the Sovereign Shield’s goal of 100 million dollars to establish the Institute of Preemptology and its Queen Elizabeth II Centre for Cervical Cancer Elimination. The Century’s full structure, criteria, and ceremonial sequence are set out on a dedicated page.

Give Form to Peace

Champions are the visible expression of shared purpose — giving form to peace through philanthropy and public action for the common good.
