A cause-seeding gathering of exactly 100 named participants, convened during the Give 100 observance year to awaken, organise, and multiply support for the Sovereign Shield — the Commonwealth tribute to Queen Elizabeth II at 100 and the founding civic movement for the Institute of Preemptology.

What the Semidon Is
The Semidon is the repeatable civic unit of Give 100. It is not simply an event, and not merely a fundraiser. It gathers 100 named participants to seed practical support for the Institute of Preemptology, incorporating its Queen Elizabeth II Centre for Cervical Cancer Elimination — through gifts, pledges, advocacy, institutional alignment, partnerships, volunteer mobilisation, and public witness.
A Semidon may be convened during the Year of Peace, from 1 January to 31 December 2027, by any person or body willing to gather 100 named participants in accordance with the formal criteria of Give 100. Each may be named for its City, convener, host, office, institution, or occasion. The Opening Semidon marks the moment a City enters the observance and may be convened on a date within that year.
The Purpose
Why the Semidon Matters
Give 100 is not only a commemorative observance but a civic founding with permanent institutional consequence. The Semidon matters because it turns symbolic tribute into disciplined public action: 100 Commonwealth Cities, each convening structured gatherings of 100 named participants, towards the establishment of Preemptology as a permanent shield against preventable suffering, disease, and premature death.
In Givingtide, 100 signifies total participation, total contribution, and total success: 100% of humanity called to give 100% of what each can give toward the 100% elimination of preventable suffering, disease, and extreme poverty.
The Charter
The Five Formal Criteria
A Semidon is constituted only when it satisfies each of the following five criteria without exception.

Exactly 100 named participants. A Give 100 Semidon gathers exactly 100 named participants, including the convener or host team where applicable.

Not more than 100 minutes. The discipline of time gives the Semidon clarity, dignity, and repeatability.

A cause-seeding purpose. A Semidon must seed substantive support for the Sovereign Shield: gifts, pledges, advocacy, partnerships, public commitment, institutional alignment, volunteer support, or other practical contributions.

Observance alignment. A Give 100 Semidon must take place within the Year of Peace, from 1 January to 31 December 2027. Preparatory meetings before 1 January 2027 are permitted, but they must not be called Semidons.

Named civic responsibility. A Semidon may be named for its City, convener, host, office, institution, or occasion: a City Semidon, Presidential Semidon, Corporate Champion’s Semidon, Birthday Semidon, Natal Semidon, or another appropriate form.
The Observance
Ceremonial Sequence
Give 100 is formally announced on 21 September 2026, the International Day of Peace, with preparations continuing through 31 December 2026. The Year of Peace runs from 1 January to 31 December 2027: each City enters through its Opening Semidon and multiplies support throughout the year.
Before 1 January 2027
Preparation
Founding Commissions, Champions, Beacons, hosts, institutions, and citizens prepare the civic ground — issuing invitations, securing commitments, briefing participants, and identifying LAMPs and LAMP Companions. These are preparatory acts, not Semidons.
From 1 January 2027
Opening Semidon
During the Year of Peace, each of the 100 Commonwealth Cities may enter Give 100 through an Opening Semidon, held on a date within the observance year.
1 January – 31 December 2027
Multiplication
Throughout the Year of Peace, each City aims to convene at least 100 further Semidons, following its Opening Semidon, with the observance continuing through 31 December 2027.
On 21 September 2027 — the International Day of Peace and a day of emphasis within the Year of Peace — 100 LAMPs gather in Toronto for a Semidon in support of the Sovereign Shield. The Give 100 observance continues until 31 December 2027. Peace through preemption is the guiding principle of Give 100 and of the Founding.
Stewardship
Philanthropic and Fiduciary Purpose
Where a Semidon generates support, it serves a single, clearly defined objective — the founding of Preemptology — governed by institutional trust and directed towards lasting public benefit.
Sovereign Shield
Support seeded through Semidons adds to the Sovereign Shield’s objective of US$100 million for the Institute of Preemptology.

Major project funds are held only through approved fiduciary trusteeship or authorised financial custody arrangements. A Chapter may raise modest local operational support, but a Semidon itself is not a separate fiduciary body.
